Single VPN combines the Status Bar’s Wi-Fi & VPN indicators into a single icon
iOS developer 82flex has discovered a relatively ingenious way to make you aware of when you’re connected to a VPN without cluttering your Status Bar with additional icons, and they’re released their idea in the form of a new jailbreak tweak called Single VPN.
As you can see for yourself in the screenshot examples depicted above, Single VPN changes the Wi-Fi indicator in your Status Bar so that it appears tinted in a color of your choosing whenever you’re connected to any VPN. When you disconnect from your VPN, the Status Bar’s Wi-Fi indicator returns to its colorless appearance.
This is a great idea because the normal VPN icon for the Status Bar isn’t always visible under all circumstances, especially when your Status Bar is filled with several different icons already. But more than that, it uses an existing icon and reduces clutter in one fell swoop.
Once installed, Single VPN adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure a myriad of options to their liking, as shown above. Things you can do there include:
- Toggle Single VPN on or off on demand
- Choose a color to use in Light interfaces
- Choose a color to use in Dark interfaces
- Reset appearances to their defaults
- Respring your device to apply any changes you’ve made
Single VPN is advertised as working with jailbreaks running on iOS 15 and 16 firmware. While you can download the tweak free of cost from the Havoc repository via your favorite package manager app, the developer notes that it’s a paid, albeit open source jailbreak tweak that users can learn more from via the developer’s GitHub page.
